Welcome to Rhonda Bell Designs!
I’ve always been a crafty person. From my first loom potholder when I was five or six years old to more recently digital scrapbooking, I’ve always enjoyed making art with my hands. Over the years, I have crocheted, knitted, made beaded and silver jewelry, made books, done rubber stamping, colored, and scrapbooked. I’ve also dabbled in learning how to draw and paint.
For many years I’ve wanted to have a craft related business. In the late 1990’s, I sold beads and jewelry making supplies at bead shows along with beaded jewelry I made. In the early 2000s, I took up paper crafts and mixed media. I enjoyed making artist trading cards and participating in art swaps. I ran a Yahoo! Group that hosted art swaps and I produced an art swap zine. I ran a couple of art retreats based on the theme of women mixed media artists helping and teaching other women techniques and projects.
However, I never felt creative enough or artistic enough to really believe I could be successful, so I didn’t stick with them long enough for any of my businesses to take off. And because I had a full-time job and a mortgage and bills to pay, I didn’t allow myself to put my full effort and love into them either.
Over a year ago, I sold my home in Seattle, WA and bought an RV to live and travel full-time. At the time, I had a jammed-packed room of all the supplies from my various hobbies and businesses from over the years. I allowed myself one basket of supplies and I gave away the rest. I picked portable supplies of colored pencils, felt pens, and coloring books. I didn’t have room for much more and I didn’t want messy supplies like paint and glue.
After a year of traveling, I really started missing making art. I had been using a couple of coloring apps on my phone but wanted to do more. At the same time, I had taken thousands of pictures of my travels and wanted to capture them in some kind of scrapbook but didn’t want to buy and store all the supplies needed for a physical scrapbook. I found a couple of scrapbook apps and I became hooked on digital scrapbooking and art ever since.
My purpose for creating my website is that I wanted to combine my love of making art, journaling, capturing photos, color, design, and texture along with helping others connect to their own creativity. I wanted to show and teach others that they too can make art without needing any art education or a lot of resources and supplies.
My hope is that by providing a place where others can learn and share, that each person will go away with a feeling that they are an artist too.
Some of the ways I do this is by providing tools and supplies for making digital art, journal cards, greeting card, collage, scrapbooks and other types of art. Along with getting started guides in digital art, simple to follow how-tos and other resources, I hope to inspire you to find the inner-artist and maker that you truly are.
